ICS-460 Finance/Administration Section Chief
Course Overview
ICS-460 prepares emergency management and response personnel for the role of Finance/Admin Section Chief (FASC) on an Incident Management Team. The course builds on ICS fundamentals and focuses on the FASC’s duties and responsibilities, including incident response and effective section management. Training is delivered in small, instructor-led groups in your region, featuring hands-on exercises, realistic scenarios, and personalized coaching to ensure job-ready skills.
Course Objectives
- Explain the roles and responsibilities of the Finance/Administration Section Chief and the overall function of the Finance Section.
- Describe methods for collecting, organizing, and sharing financial and administrative information during incident operations.
- Explain the Finance/Administration Section Chief’s responsibilities during initial response and transition to ongoing operations.
- Apply strategies for determining finance support and service requirements for incident operations.
- Describe how to develop a right-sized Finance Section organization to meet incident needs.
- Explain how the Finance Section provides support to IMT customers and coordinates with other sections.
- Apply strategies for effective interaction and communication with IMT personnel and external partners.
- Describe the Finance Section’s involvement in meetings, briefings, and the Incident Action Planning (IAP) process.
- Explain the Finance/Administration Section Chief’s responsibilities for resource requesting, ordering, and tracking incident resources.
- Describe how the Finance Section interacts with Logistics regarding facilities, communications, and resource support.
- Explain the Finance/Administration Section Chief’s responsibilities for developing, reviewing, and implementing the Demobilization Plan.
Target Audience: Responders who may be assigned duties as FASC during an incident.
Duration: 18 hours, delivered over 2 days, in person.
The ICS-460 course is designed as a blended learning experience. While the core content is delivered in three days of instructor-led, face-to-face training, additional asynchronous activities are included to reinforce learning and meet the full 18-hour requirement in compliance with California Code of Regulations 14 CCR 830.5.
Pre-requisites are required.
